🔸INTRODUCTION
This short story was originally written on August 2, 2023, as a personal writing prompt titled, How would you describe yourself to someone? It was a reflection assignment given to me during a therapy session. I was encouraged to write from the perspective of others who love me—what they see, how they might describe me. That exercise brought forth a familiar name: Emma Jane.
Emma Jane is a recurring character in my writing, a woman shaped by grace and grounded in faith. She often represents parts of me I don’t always see clearly. She embodies the woman I strive to be through Christ. Yet, she struggles, and it is a mystery. I wasn’t sure I’d ever share this, but today felt like the right time to reshare it. Maybe you’ll see a bit of yourself in Emma Jane, too.

✨EMMA JANE: A SHORT STORY
In a quiet, humble town lived a woman named Emma Jane. She was many things—mother, wife, friend—but most of all, she was a servant of Christ. Her life bore the fruit of someone who walked closely with her Savior. She clung to Jesus through every storm, trusting Him when the road was unclear and rejoicing in Him when the days were bright.
Emma was a rare blend of warmth and wonder. She loved people deeply—connecting, encouraging, listening—but she also treasured stillness. In quiet moments, she found renewal, speaking to the Lord and letting His presence settle her soul like a gentle wind across the hills.
Though people often labeled her outgoing, those closest to her knew she was also contemplative, a thinker with a heart tuned to God’s whisper. She didn’t need to explain herself. Her heart belonged to the Lord, and that was enough.
She was a nurturer by nature, not because of stars in the sky, but because Christ had placed that compassion deep within her. As a mother and wife, she lived to protect, encourage, and serve—filling the gaps, praying over her home, and standing firm in the Spirit when challenges arose. Emma was a peacemaker, but also a warrior—gentle, yet unshakable in her faith.
Life had not always been kind. She had known betrayal, loss, and the sting of deep sorrow. But these wounds only made her faith stronger. Her knees had become worn from prayer. Her tears had often mingled with her praise. And in all of it, she saw God’s hand working good from pain.
Emma Jane radiated love, not the temporary kind, but the enduring love that comes from knowing who she belongs to. Her honesty could be sharp, her loyalty unwavering. She loved fiercely and forgave often, always pointing others to the One who had redeemed her.
In every moment—joyful or weary—Emma Jane chose to walk in truth, mercy, and grace. Not perfectly, but purposefully. Because she knew she was never walking alone.
✍️ AUTHOR NOTE
This story is close to my heart. It came from a vulnerable moment, prompted by a therapist’s request to write what others might say about me. Writing from that lens was hard, but Emma Jane helped me speak truth over myself when I struggled to believe it. I hope she reminds you that even when life feels heavy, God’s grace still speaks—through us, in us, and for us.
