5 Weights to Lay at the Feet of Jesus
During my Bible study this week, I came across these points in my Bible App—and they really moved me. I couldn’t keep them to myself and wanted to share. I also add my thoughts to each point and how all carry burdens. Some we confess out loud, others we bury deep. But Scripture reminds us that none of them are ours to shoulder forever. These five heavy points are the ones God longs for you to release into His hands.

1. Fear of the Future
“Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
— Matthew 6:34
Fear convinces us that tomorrow is already ruined. But God reminds us: today is enough. He holds your tomorrows—every unanswered question, every unknown road—in His faithful hands.
2. The Desire to Control
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
— Jeremiah 29:11
When we grip control too tightly, we trade peace for pressure. God already has the blueprint of your life. His plans are hope-filled, even when you can’t see the full design.
3. The Pain of Regret
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
— 1 John 1:9
Regret keeps you chained to yesterday, but God’s mercy unfastens every link. Confession doesn’t just cleanse—it restores. Your past mistakes don’t define your present grace.
4. Shame from Your Past
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17
Shame whispers, You are still that person. But God’s Word declares, You are brand new. The past may remind you, but it no longer defines you.
5. Unforgiveness
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
— Ephesians 4:32
Holding on to unforgiveness is like holding yourself in prison. Freedom flows when you mirror Christ’s forgiveness—undeserved, yet freely given. Forgiveness doesn’t mean saying the offense or the hurtful things were okay. It means placing those wounds into God’s hands, releasing the weight of them, and allowing Him to take care of what you were never meant to shoulder.

Closing Reflection
These words first found me through my Bible App, but I believe they were placed in front of me by God for a reason. And maybe they’re in front of you right now for a reason, too.
Lay them down—fear, control, regret, shame, and unforgiveness—one by one at the foot of the cross. You were never meant to carry them. God isn’t asking you to be strong enough; He’s asking you to be willing enough. Walk with Him daily, always.
When hands unclench, peace floods in.
When burdens drop, love rushes deep.
What you release in surrender,
He restores in grace.
