Here we y’all…

A Year That Shaped Me

As 2023 comes to a close, I’m feeling what many others are—burnout, high expenses, and too much month left at the end of every paycheck. I’ve been stretched thin, juggling work, staying faithful to God’s path, and trying to be present for the people I love most.

This year wasn’t easy. I faced toxic relationships, health challenges, and the constant pressure of “doing it all.” But during my final counseling session of the year, I realized just how far I’ve come. I’m not just surviving—I’m thriving in ways I didn’t think possible. Spiritually, mentally, emotionally—I’ve grown stronger, and there’s joy in me now that overcomes the dark corners I once lived in.

I’ve learned to set boundaries and protect my peace. I stay focused on what God has for me and pour into the people and places that truly matter—my marriage, my kids, and my faith.

My son is graduating soon, and my daughter still needs her mama. Watching them grow brings both joy and nostalgia. I want to be fully present for them. That means slowing down, saying no when needed, and making room for the moments that matter.

In 2024, I plan to plant more, bake more, read and write more, and get outside as much as I can. I want to prioritize family time, nurture my marriage, and keep my work purposeful and grounded. No huge declarations—just quiet, intentional living.

As for what’s ahead, only God knows. The world is unpredictable, but I know where my true home is. So, I’ll keep walking forward with Jesus, trusting Him to guide each step.

Happy New Year—may you stay safe, steady, and rooted in grace.

Good to hear… thank you for sharing.

Does your son have plans for next year?

He does have a few options. Different school opportunities and a few trade school ideas. He isn’t 100% in one direction yet. In the next one or two, I’m sure he will finalize something. We will start visiting some places and everything will become more real to him and to us!!

Good plan! (And don’t forget, that’s how it all started in my current fictional universe… episode 1 of DLTDGB was about a 16-year-old character-Greg visiting university campi on the way back from a family vacation.)

Absolutely!! The one thing I tell him that I didn’t think about back then is- how much you make $$$ over the amount it costs to learn. Your degree shouldn’t cost more than the annual income of the job or career you’re training for. Which is sadly the case now. You have to look ahead and not just with your heart.

Good point. I wouldn’t be able to afford to send a kid to “UJ” today, nor would I be likely to afford it myself had I grown up in this era. I had a scholarship for my grades back then; that definitely helped a lot.
